Here is the RN Cover Letter Examples example:
Dear Nursing Administrator:
My name is Grant Ross and I am a registered nurse in the Emergency Department at ABC Regional Medical Center where I have worked for the past 4 years since passing the NCLEX-RN exam and receiving my license. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from State University where I graduated Cum Laude in 2009. It has been my privilege to work in the ED where I learned far more than I even learned in college. These last 4 years have been an amazing experience; however I would like to work in a non-emergency environment for a while and I believe I could be an asset to the nursing team on the surgical floor.
My resume is attached along with 2 reference letters from 2 doctors with whom I have worked in the ED these past 4 years, Dr. Allison Marks and Dr. Bert Norris. I have helped treat patients with injuries as minor as stitches resulting from a fall and injuries as serious as gunshot wounds sustained in a gang fight. I have tremendous experience with all types of broken bones and head trauma resulting from motor vehicle and other accidents. I was called in back in October of 2010 to work with the huge influx of patients in the ED following the ABC Airlines crash in our city. I also was working in the ED in August of 2011 when we experienced many serious injuries following a subway derailment and subsequent fire.
I hope you will consider me for a transfer from the Emergency Department to the surgical floor. I am willing and able to work any shift and I am available for an interview any time at your convenience. I can be reached on my cell phone at (012)-345-6789 or by email at [firstname.lastname@example.org]
Example 2 -Unadvertised Opening
This RN cover letter example is from a nurse who works in a hospital pediatric ward, but would like to transition to a pediatrician’s office to get away from shift work. She is applying for a position in the office of a doctor with whom she works at the hospital.
Dear Dr. Carter:
I have enjoyed working with you at ABC Regional Hospital for the past 5 years and would like to be considered for a nursing position in your office. I love my job working with children at the hospital, but I am recently married as you know, and I would like to work regular day hours instead of doing shift work. I realize that I will most likely make less money in an office setting, but I am willing to take a pay cut in order to have a work schedule that is similar to that of my husband.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from XYZ State College in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and a concentration in pediatrics. I did my internship at ABC Regional and was hired full-time upon its completion. Although I received my formal education in college, I have learned even more at the hospital from the more experienced nurses and the doctors. There is no substitute for practical experience in a real work environment.
Another aspect of my work at the hospital that I treasure is bringing smiles and giggles to the children when I dress up as my alter-ego, Carrie the Clown. It would be my pleasure to have Carrie the Clown “visit” your office any time you deem appropriate. It is amazing what laughter can do to support recovery in sick or injured children. I also take Carrie to elementary schools in the area to talk to children and parents about basic health issues. I am passionate about teaching children and parents how they can take charge of their own health.
I have completed an application from your office and attached it to this letter with my resume. In addition, my supervising nurse, Angela Love, has attached a letter of recommendation. I would greatly appreciate being considered for a nursing position in your office whenever one becomes available. I am happy to schedule an interview anytime at your convenience and can be reached on my cell phone at (012)-345-6789 or via email at [email@example.com]

Example 3 – Response to Job Postings and Classifieds Ads
This RN cover letter example is from a nursing school graduate who is applying for a position at an orthopedic medical practice. He took college courses in orthopedics in order to specialize in that field of nursing. He has completed an internship on the orthopedic floor of the local hospital.
Dear Dr. O’Neil:
I am responding to the job posting on the board at ABC Medical Center for one of the available entry level nursing positions at ABC Orthopedic Specialists. I have just completed an internship on the orthopedic floor at ABC Medical and am graduating this weekend with honors from ABC State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing with a concentration in orthopedics. I have already passed the state board exams and received my RN designation.
I had the pleasure of working with you at the hospital on several occasions and greatly admire your work. I also took the tour, along with some of the orthopedic nurses from the hospital, when you opened the minor surgery center at your office. ABC Orthopedic Specialists is a leader in the field and I would be honored to be a part of such a stellar practice. I knew when I got accepted into nursing school that I wanted to work in the area of orthopedics. It has always been my chief interest.
I volunteer every other Saturday at the local health clinic where I handle all kinds of health issues including orthopedics. One of my chief responsibilities at the clinic is performing x-rays and other basic diagnostic tests. I have worked at the clinic for the past year and have found it to be a very rewarding experience. I strongly believe in giving back to the community and plan to continue my work at the clinic once I find a full-time nursing position and determine my regular work schedule.
My resume is attached along with an application from your office and a letter of reference from my nursing supervisor, Grace Rains, RN. I would appreciate being considered for one of the open positions at your practice, and I am available for an interview any time at your convenience. I can be reached on my cell phone at (012)-345-6789 or via email at [firstname.lastname@example.org]
